We were super excited to see Matt and Maddy. Maddy was excited to see Thor. Then she was excited to see Henry. This above picture is a little blurry because Maddy was getting up to kick me out of the room and shut the door so that she could be alone with Henry. There was a lot of the two of them telling us to "GO AWAY!" and "GET OUT!" like they were 16. Jeez.
They are pretty cute together. They also became somewhat obsessed with carrying potatoes around. Weirdos.
I love all the patterns and textures in LA. Did I mention that I love LA?
I finally got to go to Intelligentsia Coffee. Is it totally weird that I wanted to go based on the tile? And the fact that I am obsessed with Bestor Architecture? The coffee was great. Henry approved of the muffin too.
"Do you guys want to get pancakes?"Matt.
"Sure!" Me
"There is this place in downtown. Totally filled with crazy people, its a cafeteria, you shouldnt drive your car because people might steal your clothes. Wanna go? The kids might like it."
"Sure....."
It was hilarious. There was a dude with Spock like pointy ears behind us eating an entire turkey leg. Thor ate a ton of food, including that jalapeno cheese stuffed bread roll, he is basically a human garbage disposal. I am more smell oriented so I had a hard time eating being surrounded by people that might not like showers so much. Dont get me started on the terror that is the bathroom. Another major thing I realized during all of this massive travel....if you are about to open a bathroom door at a truck stop, a diner or portapotty and you get a bad/sad/scared feeling before you see whats on the other side, walk away...if you can hold it. You cant unlearn some of the things you will learn when see the other side of that door. Trust your gut.
And we were off to Northern California. We stopped at a nut farm/stand and Henry ran around in the blazing heat inside of a tent.
Henry was obsessed with this pig. There were loads of other animals but he kept wanting to see the pig. In fact when he went to sleep that night he was whispering about her still, then he woke up at 4:30 in the morning crying about her and asking her to come back.
Note to self: Don't wear sandals to a farm. Our friend Kay who has known me since I was 8 took us to a farm on top of a hill in Berkeley. Wise move Kay.
We had some lovely Indian food at Kay and John's house. And Henry tromped around in the backyard. Kay's nephew was in town and camping in the backyard for the night. Henry also was reciting the double rainbow video a lot. In fact I sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to him each night, and now he is inserting "double" into the song for me.
Thanks for reading about our trip. I dont know that we would go on one again that long. But it was fun? We are home again and we have never ever felt so loved. We are lucky lucky kids back home on our beautiful little island.
Just when I think I can't find Henry more adorable and hilarious, he pines for a pig, pairs up with another adorable toddler who wants "alone time" with him, and they become potato-toters. So funny and sweet. Oh, can't forget the double rainbow song. Life with Henry and Thor must be filled with joy.
(I'm with you on Intelligentsia Coffee. I want to go there just based on the photos from Bestor's site. Tile everywhere. Awesome.)

Oh man. Henry's little saltwater sandals while eating his muffin and his Moon t-shirt/grey cap combo are killing me. Your son in ADORABLE.
Total ovary punch to the face.

yay! welcome home jensens!
(p.s. if i would have known you are intelligentsia obsessed i would have walked you a 1/2 block over there when we were at the fountain downtown. although the chicago intelligentsia is lacking in bestor..so there's that.)
